We have to do digital transformation and become a data company. I think these truths are correct, but I will ask, what do you want to do with the data? They can hardly answer them.

1. Data – Data is raw numbers and facts. We are confused because we don’t know the boundaries of knowledge. Data is defined as raw information and knowledge, and data can be used from different perspectives. I used to go to a county-level city in Shandong. The leaders told me that this is the highest level of GDP in the county-level cities in China. I asked him, what is the total population? He does not speak, he should be the country’s county-level city with the largest population. In other words, per capita GDP is not so high in the county-level cities across the country, so the maximum GDP is meaningless.

The next day I went to another city. The leaders told me that they had the highest per capita GDP in the second-class cities. I asked what is the total population? He said 400,000, I said that the total amount of GDP must not be high. If the data is not processed, the data will not help us make any decision. If we take this data to make a decision, we will harm ourselves. We have to rise to a new level: information.

2. Information – processed data. I went to a company. They said that they are the first in the industry. I will ask him how long the first position has been? He said it was 12 years, and I went on to say, then do you grow? He said that there has been no growth in the past five years. I said that what is the use of this definition? Why transition from data to information? There is no way to make value judgments without processed data. The processed information can be judged by value? not yet. I have to take another step. This step is knowledge.

3. Knowledge – the information that has been identified. Knowledge is generated after the information has been processed. When I understand a city’s GDP, I need to understand its industrial structure before I can make a value judgment for the economy as a whole. Finally, I have the knowledge of the city and can help the city make choices.

Whether you have knowledge or not, you need to do three things: find the real source, do the processing and processing, and identify it. You can only discuss and possess knowledge if you have gone through this process.

Be sure to have your personal information
For the people of this era, the biggest challenge is to effectively distinguish between information and knowledge.
