77 Years of Love and Partnership: The Enduring Story of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter

   “He saw me through the cradle,” Rosalyn said in 2021, recalling her “first meeting” with Jimmy Carter. In 1945, Jimmy and Rosalind had their first date and quickly fell in love. Jimmy wrote in his 2015 memoir, A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety, that on that night, “I knew Rosalyn was the one I loved.”
   Jimmy and Rosalyn have been together for 77 years since their marriage. This marriage means a lot to him. In 2002, when Jimmy Carter received the Nobel Peace Prize, he was asked if receiving the honor was the most exciting thing in his life. But he gave a negative answer. For him, “Rosalyn said she wanted to marry me” was the most exciting thing.
   During their 77 years of living together, the Carters established the closest relationship. Some American media commented that the couple’s marriage is a union full of love and a model of modern partnership that subverts traditional gender norms.

   The Carters told The Associated Press in a joint interview in 2021 that while running the family business, Rosalyn became an important partner in the Carter family’s agricultural business.
   “We formed a partnership while we were in the farm supply business, and I had more written knowledge of the business than he did. He would listen to my advice,” Rosalyn said. “That partnership continued when Jimmy entered politics.”
   Jimmy Carter served as a Georgia senator from 1963 to 1967 and governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975, before joining the White House from 1977 to 1981. Presided over the White House and became the 39th President of the United States.
   As her husband’s political career took off, Rosalind remained his staunch supporter and advisor, and later the two worked together on humanitarian causes.
   During Jimmy Carter’s tenure as Georgia governor, Rosalynn led the fight to break the stigma of mental illness. As First Lady after Jimmy Carter was elected President of the United States, Rosalynn continued to advocate for mental health and worked to promote women’s rights and promote childhood immunizations.
   After leaving the White House, the Carters founded the Carter Center in 1982. The center conducts projects in developing countries aimed at resolving conflicts, advancing democratic processes and alleviating disease suffering.
   According to the “Washington Post” report, Rosalyn once lamented at Jimmy Carter’s 90th birthday celebration: “Over the years, we have not only become friends and lovers, but also partners.” Rosalyn said: “He always thought I could do anything, and because of that, we experienced some wonderful adventures and challenges together.” In
