Unlocking Your Inner Faust: Embracing the Power of Self-Imagination

What is the real ideal? It is a kind of self-imagination, imagining the future life I want and the person I want to be. Let me give you an example of a literary work – “Faust” written by Goethe in the 18th century. It tells a very interesting story.
There was an old doctor named Faust. He spent his whole life in a study, doing knowledge all his life, and others respected him. But when he got old, he suddenly found that his life was wasted, because he found that in this life, he only knew the same skill, which was copy and paste. , I wrote so many papers, but they were just pasted and pasted, and no one read them. He feels that such a life has no meaning. So he prayed to the gods, hoping to live again. Later, the devil helped him drink the elixir of youth, and Faust returned to his 20s and lived another life.
How was his second life? He fell in love but failed; he pursued an official career but failed; he pursued artistic dreams but failed; and finally he wanted to build an utopia but failed.
When I told this story, many students had the same feeling: “Teacher, this is me! Isn’t this my life of accomplishing nothing?” But Faust was very satisfied, and so was God. God believed that Faust represented the entire Human beings live a life of accomplishing nothing.
In fact, Faust did one thing, which was to maintain a strong self-imagination and the courage to explore the possibilities of himself and life. If this path doesn’t work, I’ll try something else; if it still doesn’t work, I’ll keep trying; if the direction is wrong, I’ll adjust. Such a kind of not giving up on his own life, or a strong imagination of himself, prevents any wall from becoming a dead end in his life, and no small reality can imprison his life.
We will find that an imagination of ourselves will become a spiritual spring in our lives. With this spring, our lives will not be squashed. But how do you get a copy of your self-imagination? We can consider two propositions. First of all, who do you want to be and what kind of life do you want to live? An appropriate self-imagination must be based on an understanding of yourself. Secondly, we need to understand what our interests are, what we are good at, and what our characteristics are, so that we can customize a self-imagination through “private customization”. Only such self-imagination can become our ideal.
