    Czeslaw Milosz: A Life in Words

    Today is the birthday of Polish poet and writer Czeslaw Milosz (June 30, 1911 – August 14, 2004). He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1980 for his work “with uncompromising insight, which describes the nakedness of human beings in a world of violent conflict”. His life is the chronicle of the past century, and he has tasted the bitterness and pain of that century. He recorded everything he experienced and thought in his poems, novels and essays. His works deeply analyzed the spiritual crisis of the contemporary world, insisted on the moral responsibility of intellectuals, and opened a dialogue with the ancient Polish literary tradition.
