Scoliosis, try these exercises

The spine of a normal person is a straight line viewed from the back, and the sides of the trunk are symmetrical. If the shoulders are asymmetrical or unequal when viewed from the front, and the back is uneven when viewed from the back, it is likely to be scoliosis.
According to incomplete statistics from relevant institutions, there are more than 5 million scoliosis patients in my country, and approximately 300,000 people are newly added every year. Behind this, in addition to congenital diseases, a large number of them are caused by bad habits, such as rickets and incorrect sitting posture. In patients with scoliosis, because the spine maintains a twisted shape (C-type and S-type), the height of the patient is generally lower than that of the same age, which affects the external appearance. Not only that, thoracic scoliosis can also affect cardiopulmonary function, and patients are prone to colds and pneumonia, while lumbar scoliosis may cause gastrointestinal reactions such as loss of appetite and indigestion. Correcting scoliosis in time can prevent its further progress, restore the physiological curvature of the spine, maintain trunk balance, change the appearance of deformities, minimize the range of fusion, reduce or relieve low back pain, and maximize the improvement and maintenance of cardiopulmonary function. So, how to correct scoliosis patients?
To correct scoliosis, the first step is to clarify the degree of scoliosis of the patient, and determine the correction method accordingly: If the scoliosis exceeds 40°, it means that it is more serious, and surgery should be considered; if the degree of scoliosis is low Between 20 and 40°, it belongs to moderate scoliosis, which can be treated with a brace and corrected with some rehabilitation training, such as the following exercises-
Stretching exercises

Extend the hands to the top of the head until the back feels pulling, then extend and bend in the opposite direction of the scoliosis. Pillows or balls can also be placed on the side of the scoliosis, the purpose is to stretch the scoliosis to the opposite side, so that the spine is in a straight line.
Stretching exercises can also be carried out with the help of a fitness ball: the patient leans sideways on the fitness ball, so that the hips and the bottom of the ribs rest on the ball, use the feet and hands close to the ground to help the body maintain balance, and at the same time extend the other arm as much as possible. Keep this position for about 20 seconds, repeat 3 times, every day.
Stretching exercises can also be done with the help of a foam roller: wrap a towel around the foam roller, lie on the patient’s side, stretch the upper leg as far as possible, and bend the lower leg from the knee to the ground to maintain balance, and stretch the upper arm as much as possible. Until the hand can touch the ground, keep this position for about 30 seconds and repeat 3 times every day.
Downward dog stretching exercises can also be performed. This is a classic stretching exercise, but it also has a good correction effect on scoliosis. The specific method is: take the plank as the starting position, touch the palms on the ground, slowly raise the hips and buttocks, so that the body forms a triangle, hold this position for 5 seconds and then slowly return to the starting position, every day.
Core muscle strength exercises

In patients with scoliosis, the strength of the abdominal muscles, back muscles, and peripheral muscles of the pelvis are not balanced, the body stability is poor, and the mutual activities between the spine segments are uneven. It is necessary to strengthen the core muscles of the patient through targeted training. Specifically, according to the state of scoliosis and the severity of the disease, select the appropriate training method from low to high, strengthen the strength of the core muscles, and help the spine gradually return to its normal position through muscle traction.
Posture correction gymnastics

Especially for teenagers with scoliosis, the body is still in the developmental stage, and the muscle groups that maintain the posture of the spine are selectively strengthened, and the muscle balance of the convex side of the scoliosis is adjusted to traction the muscles, ligaments and other soft tissues of the concave side contracture. Obvious therapeutic effect.
Scoliosis develops very quickly. If it is in adolescence, scoliosis will increase rapidly with the rapid development of bones, generally increasing by 10 to 15 degrees a year, so rehabilitation training is best performed before the bones mature, the earlier the treatment effect The more obvious. Before performing corrections, you should consult a doctor to ensure that the chosen rehabilitation training is suitable for you. Under normal circumstances, exercise is a good non-surgical correction method, which can relieve mild back pain of scoliosis and correct mild and moderate scoliosis symptoms. It is good for some patients with type C and S scoliosis effect. However, it is impossible to correct scoliosis by exercise, and it is necessary to practice regularly for a long time.
